Bistrot du Palais, Brasserie Restaurant in Lyon 3
More than thirty years ago, the Bistrot du Palais opened its doors at 220 rue Duguesclin. Just a stone's throw from the Presqu'île and on the other side of the Rhône river, the location may well have raised eyebrows at the time, even though the proximity of the new Palais de Justice, evoked in the restaurant’s name, was already a determining factor.
But Chef Jean-Paul Lacombe, always a visionary when it comes to foreseeing the future of a district, made no mistake in setting up the little brother of his famous Bistrot de Lyon here.
The Bistrot du Palais is located in the heart of a district that has become increasingly attractive over the decades, with a pedestrianised area, a lively atmosphere in which residents, workers and shopkeepers come together, and good public transport links.
A brasserie for a gourmet lunch in under an hour
Today, the restaurant is a prized address in a district where its professional clientele - whether they come from the Palais de Justice or nearby offices - are seeking that rare gem for their lunchtime rendezvous: an inviting atmosphere, where you can be sure to enjoy a superb meal in under an hour.
In the evening, it is frequented by our regulars who, whether they are neighbours or from further afield, flock here to enjoy dinner preceded by one of our house cocktail aperitifs.
And then there are the concert-goers who come here early to savour a pre-show gourmet meal before heading off to enjoy performances at the nearby Bourse du Travail theatre or the Auditorium concert hall.
Home cooking bursting with flavour
Whether at lunchtime or in the evening, regulars love this place, where conviviality and generosity are the order of the day, and in which the carefree feel of a Parisian bistro meets the warm and welcoming ambience of a brasserie.
The restaurant is bathed in natural light with its large picture windows and glass-fronted veranda opening out onto the pedestrianised street, while the décor invites you to linger over the multitude of lovingly collected objects from old copper baking moulds to enamelled plates, vintage posters and more.
The approach remains that of real home cooking bursting with flavour, creating mouthwatering dishes simmered with love and attention by Chef Philippe Gonon. The starters, main courses and desserts of the day are regularly renewed, while local and seasonal cuisine is a must.
